Tree Thangka

My relationship with creativity and how I've understood it over the decades has prepared me not to be surprised when I 'see" something. Like a dream but fully awake, I saw this painting unfold in a 20 minute sit of silence asking "what do you really want?" Several years later I understood this image as a Thangka or sacred painting "often rolled up". It usually depicts a scene intended for personal meditation or instruction. Little did I know that this scene of a tree rooted in rich river soil, reaching for the sun was instructional. In the end I had to paint this and gratefully I had the tools to do so.
